Even though he grew up in Houston, Rob spent much time in the rural area of Montgomery County on his family's farm.  He came to know both the rural and city life, and that exposure to both cultures benefited him greatly in his adult life.

After graduation from high school in Houston, he attended Sam Houston State University and obtained a degree in Criminology. While at college, he met Sandra, his wife of almost 39 years.

He had aspirations to someday work for the FBI or Federal Marshals.  Experience was needed first, so Rob joined the Houston Police Department in 1975.  After working the streets of Houston for three years he decided there had to be an easier way to make a living.  So, he began a new career in sales and marketing.  For over 20 years, his customer base included schools and school districts, and eventually he became the sales trainer for the company.

While active in the lay ministry for many years, there was always a nudge from God to pursue the pastoral ministry. In 2003, he received his first appointment at First UMC-San Marcos as an associate pastor.  He has since pastored several churches in the SWTX Conference.  For the past six years, he was pastor at Flatonia UMC.  In 2012, Freyburg UMC and Flatonia UMC were yoked together and he was pastor at both churches.

Sandra and Rob are blessed with two grown children, and two grandchildren.  Rob enjoys the outdoors, whether it's camping or fishing, or an occasional visit to his property in Montgomery County where maybe a fence needs mending or a tree needs cut down.  If time permits, he enjoys fishing in the lake that sits on the property (it does have some good size bass in that lake).

Folks sometimes ask him how he went from law enforcement to sales to the pastorate.  This is what he says, "In my days of being a police officer, I was trying to change the world; I still am, just a different way.   In my days of sales, I was in the business of promoting a product.  I am still promoting though.  Now, I am promoting the greatest gift to humankind, which is a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ."

Here is a short list of his favorites:

Favorite Movie:  "The Cowboys"  with John Wayne (that character reminds him of his dad).

Favorite Food: Fried Fish (salt or fresh water fish as long as it is fresh)

Favorite Sports Team:  Houston Texans ( He can't get the Houston out of his blood)
